Why MonkeyThorn Meet
No Server-Side AI
Your calls are never transcribed, summarized, or used to train models. No AI processing on our servers.
End-to-End Encrypted
When you join with the full invite link, encryption keys stay in your browser. We can't listen to those calls.
Minimal Data Retention
No recordings, no call content, no participant names. Paid-call durations are deleted after 30 days.
No Tracking
No tracking cookies, analytics, or third-party scripts on this site. Just this page and your call.
Open-Source Media Server
Media runs through LiveKit, an open-source media server. No proprietary media processing.
Cancel Anytime
Prepaid hour bundles never expire. The monthly plan cancels with one click. No surprise bills.
Start a call
No download required. Works in your browser. Free calls run up to 30 minutes.
New call

Frequently asked questions
Is MonkeyThorn Meet HIPAA compliant?
MonkeyThorn Meet is designed with strong security principles: end-to-end encryption when guests join with the full invite link, minimal data retention, no recordings, and no server-side AI processing. We do not sign Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) at this time, so we cannot be used as a HIPAA-covered service. The server never records or stores call content. It sees only what routing and billing need: IP address, room code, participant count and, for paid accounts, call duration, which is deleted after 30 days (see Security).
Can MonkeyThorn Meet record my calls?
No. We do not deploy any recording service. LiveKit supports recording via its Egress service, but we do not install or configure it. There is no server-side mechanism to record calls. Participants can still use their own screen-recording software: we cannot prevent that, but MonkeyThorn Meet itself has no recording functionality.
How does end-to-end encryption work?
When you start a call, a passphrase is generated in your browser and included in the invite link's hash fragment: the part after the # symbol, which is never sent to the server. Participants' browsers use this passphrase to encrypt and decrypt all audio and video. Our servers relay the encrypted data but cannot read it. Guests must join with the full link: without the part after #, the call is encrypted in transit only. Meetings saved in My Meetings keep their passphrase on our server with the meeting, so you can copy the link again from any device.
Do I need to download anything?
No. MonkeyThorn Meet runs entirely in your browser using WebRTC. No app, no extension, no plugin. Just open the link and join.
What happens when my hours run out?
You won't be able to create new rooms, but any active call will continue uninterrupted until it ends naturally. You can buy another hour block at any time: your access code stays the same, and the new hours are added to your balance.
What data does MonkeyThorn Meet store?
For paid accounts: your email, access code and usage totals. Individual session durations are kept for metering and deleted after 30 days; only the total remains. Room event counts (no names or identities) are deleted after 7 days. Meetings you save in My Meetings (name, room code, time and passphrase) stay until you delete them. We do not store participant names or any call content, and keep no IP address logs beyond standard infrastructure operation.
How is this different from Zoom or Google Meet?
Zoom and Google Meet process your calls through their servers, offer AI features like transcription and summarization, retain metadata, and use data for product improvement. MonkeyThorn Meet does none of this. Calls are end-to-end encrypted when guests join with the full invite link, there is no server-side AI and no recordings, and the only metadata kept is what routing and billing need. We can't access the content of an end-to-end encrypted call even if compelled to.
Can I use my access code on multiple devices?
Yes. Your access code works on any device with a modern browser: desktop, laptop, tablet, or phone. When you purchase a plan, your access code is emailed to you so you can easily access it from any device. Just enter the same code on whichever device you want to use.
What if I lose my access code?
Your access code was emailed to you when you purchased your plan. Search your inbox for an email from MonkeyThorn Meet. If you buy more hours with the same email address, the confirmation email will include your existing access code. We recommend saving it in a password manager.
